OUR HISTORY

  • Mr. Edwin Heim started in a garage at the rear of 1408 Vernon Street, Harrisburg, PA. as a motor repair shop in 1931.

  • In 1945 Mr. Heim formed a corporation, including himself and two associates:
    Edwin L. Heim, President
    Charles Bashore, Treasurer
    Richard Fisher, Secretary

  • In 1947 the company moved from the original 1408 Vernon Street location to 671 South 19th Street.

  • Mr. Heim remained active in the business until December 1954 when he retired.

  • In the reorganization Charles Bashore was elected President
    Helen Bashore, Vice President
    John Donson, Vice President in charge of construction
    Richard Fisher, Treasurer
    Mary Fisher, Secretary

  • With the increase size of building operations began to expand allowing for the establishment of a complete industrial wiring department.

  • Heim was referred to as a drug store electrician in the fifties by the large national electrical contractors ( H. P. Foley & E. C. Ernst ) which no longer exist.

  • Heim continued to grow, building a new office and warehouse in 1962 and having 2 major expansions since as well as many internal expansions.

  • This allowed us to open a Carlisle branch on June 10, 1963 at 501 Louther Street. Paul Estep managed the Carlisle shop.

  • We renovated the motor shop and added a high bay addition to house an overhead crane in approximately 1969-1970.

  • Heim Purchased 2020 Greenwood Street to use as additional warehousing in 1974.

  • Carlisle shop was closed in approximately 1978.

  • Mr. Richard Fisher passed away in 1978 and Heim later purchased his interest in the company.

  • Heim entered into the telecommunications and telephone market in 1984.

  • Purchased 630 Dunkle Street in 1990 to expand our warehouse facilities and later added on to it.

  • Heim purchased GES Technology in 1991 which moved into part of the 2020 Greenwood warehouse, and as time went on took over the whole building.
    Company President Charles Bashore passed away in 1995 and his son Larry Bashore became President.

  • In 1997 Heim purchased more adjacent property at 1928 Greenwood Street, which is used as warehousing and 643 Dunkle Street which now houses our panel manufacturing facility.

  • In 1999 Edwin L. Heim Company became an Employee Stock Ownership Plan (ESOP) company with 350 plus employees.

  • In 2002, our latest venture - the Mechanical Division - was started in response to the growing needs of our existing and new customers.
